Ice Maker Repair

Clear-ice machines and freezer-mounted ice modules that stop producing, freeze up at the fill tube, or push out hollow, cloudy or undersized cubes. Fill valves, supply lines and a stalled harvest cycle are the usual suspects behind older city plumbing.

In the caller's words

What people ring about

  • No ice at all after a full day
  • Hollow or cloudy cubes coming off the mould
  • Water overflowing the mould and freezing solid
  • Ice tasting of whatever else is in the freezer

On the visit

What gets measured

  • Fill valve operation and inlet water pressure at the appliance, not at the sink
  • Harvest cycle from start to release, timed, with the mould heater draw checked
  • Cutter grid or ejector behaviour, depending on which machine is in the cabinet
  • Water line, filter age and the shut-off behind the cabinet — the usual reason cubes shrink
  • Bin thermostat and level arm, which stop production long before the machine looks faulty

Money

What drives the number

There is no price list on this site, because a repair price that ignores the fault is a guess with a dollar sign on it. The one figure fixed in advance is the $95 service call: it covers the visit and the full diagnosis, and it comes off the repair once you approve it.

  • Which system the fault is in — a fan, a board and a sealed-system repair are three different jobs on the same cabinet
  • Whether the part is current or has to be sourced against an older model and serial
  • How the appliance is installed: an integrated column boxed into cabinetry takes longer to reach than a free-standing unit
  • Whether the diagnosis is confirmed in one visit or the fault only shows on a long run

Production had slowed to almost nothing over the summer. August humidity plus a condenser matted with dust in a cabinet with no clearance at all. He vacuumed it out, added a spacer at the back for airflow, and said to check it each spring. Output doubled the next day.

Cubes were coming out hollow and cloudy. Pressure at the condo was low and the saddle valve half shut. He opened it up, watched a full harvest, and the cubes are clear again.

The mould kept overflowing and freezing into one lump. He replaced the fill valve and shortened the fill time. Also warned me the shutoff under the sink was original and worth changing.

Model and serial from the plate inside the door, what changed and when. That is usually enough for a straight answer about whether it needs a visit — and the $95 service call covers the visit and the full diagnosis when it does.
