Beacon Hill
Federal and Greek Revival row houses along Chestnut, Mount Vernon and Pinckney, most of them long since divided into flats. Kitchens sit in garden levels or rear ells reached by a narrow stair, so a built-in column often has to come apart before it can move.

What Beacon Hill throws at us
Nothing on the Hill goes in or out the way the manual assumes. The kitchens are in garden levels and rear ells, the stairs turn twice, and the door openings were framed long before anybody sold a 30-inch column. Doors and hinges come off the cabinet first, the treads get covered, and the appliance is walked rather than wheeled. Brick and plaster also mean condenser bays that have never had a proper airflow path, which is why so many Hill callbacks are about a cabinet that runs constantly rather than one that has stopped.

Repairs we run in Beacon Hill
- Refrigerator Repair Built-in Sub-Zero columns and over-under units across the city, from garden-level kitchens on the Hill to condominium galleys in the South End. The work runs to sealed-system cooling loss, dual-compressor behaviour, defrost and control faults, and the door and gasket wear that follows years of hard city use.
- Freezer Repair Under-counter freezer drawers and full-height freezer columns that frost over, run warm, or cycle without stopping. Frost pattern and drain behaviour usually say whether the fault sits in defrost, in air circulation, or in the sealed system itself.
- Ice Maker Repair Clear-ice machines and freezer-mounted ice modules that stop producing, freeze up at the fill tube, or push out hollow, cloudy or undersized cubes. Fill valves, supply lines and a stalled harvest cycle are the usual suspects behind older city plumbing.
- Wine Cooler Repair Single and dual-zone wine storage that drifts off its set point, sweats behind the glass, or hums loudly enough to carry into the next room. Zone control, door seals and condenser airflow account for most of these calls.

Dual zone unit in the dining room had both halves reading the same. He found the upper damper motor stuck and replaced it. Explained why the display had been lying to us for months.

Heavy frost kept building on the back wall of the freezer. Defrost heater had gone open circuit. He tested it in front of me, showed the meter reading, fitted a new one and rechecked the cycle.

Condensation ran down the inside of the glass door all August. The seal had shrunk at one corner. New seal, and he checked the humidity setting while he was here. No more puddles on the floor.
